Wow, according to the article, the writing appears to be older than the bowl! The letters are dated to the 8th century and the bowl is dated to 586. Did I miss something?

Hi Benj,
From an epigraphic perspective, the style of writing and letters date to the 8-7th Century BCE. The bowl itself dates to the 7th Century BCE. It was found in a fill that covered the lower slope of the City of David that contains mostly 7th Century finds and seems to be a result of the destruction and abandonment of Jerusalem at the end of the Iron Age. so basically – the artifact dates to the 7th Century BCE, but is redeposited in a fill dating slightly later.
